KYU Gradings

Kyu gradings are done by financial JVI member Dan grades (black belts) who have been authorized by the JVI Rank Accreditation Board.   The grader takes responsibility for the standard of the student and his /her knowledge of JVI/JFA requirements.

The gradings are carried out in accordance with JFA Grading Policies and registered on-line by the grader.    This means that the student receives a JFA certificate, making the grading official.

Dan Gradings

Dan (black belt) gradings are to be submitted using the appropriate JFA Dan Grade Application Form. They need a passport type photograph,  must be filled in and submitted to the Dan Grade Administrator in accordance with the JV application procedures not the JFA.  No payment is required until the application has been approved.

Competition points gained in events outside the State must be supported by written evidence — a form is available (opposite) to record points obtained outside Victoria. Contact the Registrar for Victorian competition points.

JFA Dan grading applications require a Judo Biography to be provided.  Opposite is a suggested outline to assist applicants. The Dan Grade Administrator  and the JV Committee will decide on central Grading dates and they will be promoted to clubs and on the JV calendar. The grading becomes official only when you receive your JFA Certificate, which will generally be presented at a JV tournament.

For any recognition of overseas gradings you should complete the first page of the grading application, provide a Judo Biography and all certificates and/or letters from the grading authority.
