Kyu gradings are done by financial JVI member Dan grades (black belts) who have been authorized by the JVI Rank Accreditation Board. The grader takes responsibility for the standard of the student and his /her knowledge of JVI/JFA requirements.
The gradings are carried out in accordance with JFA Grading Policies and registered on-line by the grader. This means that the student receives a JFA certificate, making the grading official.
Dan (black belt) gradings must be done by the JVI Rank Accreditation Board and approved by the JFA. The appropriate JFA Dan Grade Application Form, with passport type photographs and fee, must be filled in and submitted to the JVI RAB Administrator in accordance with the JVI application procedures not the JFA. Bank details for a bank transfer of the fees will be provided by the JVI Rank Accreditation Board upon receipt of the application form.
Competition points gained in events outside the State must be supported by written evidence — a form is available (opposite) to record points obtained outside Victoria. Contact the Registrar for Victorian competition points.
JFA Dan grading applications require a Judo Biography to be provided. Opposite is a suggested outline to assist applicants. The RAB Administrator with the RAB, will assign a grading panel, set a time and place for the grading and provide details of the grading format. The grading becomes official only when you receive your JFA Certificate, which will generally be presented at a JVI tournament.
For any recognition of overseas gradings you should complete the first page of the grading application, provide a Judo Biography and all certificates and/or letters from the grading authority.
